My friend Stephanie sent me this project that she did in her house:
Okay, so I’m not nearly as good as you are at this thrifty homemaking, but I AM proud of one project that I did about 2 ½ years ago when we first moved into this house. All the light fixtures were the shiny brass from the 80s. My mom wanted to buy us a new fixture for the dining area as a house warming gift. We looked at all the lights at Lowe’s and Home Depot and the only one that I liked, and that my mom could afford, was just like the one we already had, only antique bronze, not brass. It seemed a shame to spend good money on something nearly the same. My mom had the idea to just buy spray paint and paint the existing fixture. I was a little skeptical at first, but since a can of paint was less than $4 I thought we’d give it a shot. The dining room fixture turned out so well that we painted the living room and entry fixtures as well. That $4 can of paint was the thriftiest update to my home I have ever done. When I look at those lights, it still brings me pride and joy.
Thanks Stephanie! You could have fooled me, I would have thought you spent tons of money on new light fixtures. I have been thinking about trying this on the fan in my kitchen.
Stephanie is also super creative when it comes to jewelry and has her own blog: http://www.stephsjewelry.blogspot.com/
She made my daughter the most beautiful baptism bracelet.
Thanks Steph!
