315th Penny Pinching Party * Merry Krampus!

Last week my husband and I went and saw Krampus. It's not our typical genre and we had no idea what to expect. This is the basic plot:

"While the holiday season represents the most magical time of year, ancient European folklore warns of Krampus, a horned beast who punishes naughty children at Christmastime. When dysfunctional family squabbling causes young Max (Emjay Anthony) to lose his festive spirit, it unleashes the wrath of the fearsome demon. As Krampus lays siege to the Engel home, mom (Toni Collette), pop (Adam Scott), sister (Stefania LaVie Owen) and brother must band together to save one another from a monstrous fate."

    Spoiler Alert
I LOVED it! My husband had no idea what to think of the movie and didn't like it very much. It's not a typical movie where you cheer for the hero to save the day, so he had a very unsettling feeling not knowing how or what he should feel. It's not a typical Christmas movie at all which is why I loved it so much. So many Christmas movies present us with a picture perfect Christmas and give ourselves and our families high expectations with Christmas miracles and touching moments.

Krampus begins with a Black Friday shopping scene and shows the stress of the holidays. The mom works very hard to make a Martha Stewart Christmas for everyone, is stressed out and under appreciated. I always get caught up in the stress and anxiety of making Christmas perfect for everyone, so I completely related. Soon everything goes wrong as Krampus comes and takes family members one at a time. It made me realize that Christmas won't be ruined if I neglect to make gingerbread houses or some other tradition that my family deems necessary. I laughed and felt the weight of Christmas lift from my shoulders as I watched Krampus destroy everything and everyone. I have a feeling that watching this movie every year is going to become a new tradition for me (an easy non-stressful kind of tradition). If anyone in my family complains that I failed to do something or I did it wrong, I'm going to say, "Merry Krampus!!!" and remind them that things could be a lot worse.

If you decide to go and see this movie and hate it, don't blame me, I have a strange sense of humor that few get.

I saw this movie on discount Tuesday, making it kind of a Penny Pinching Party thing, LOL. What have you all been up to? If you have seen Krampus, PLEASE leave me a comment and tell me what you thought.
